In The Fighting Ground by Avi we follow the story of young Jonathan's 24 hour view of the Revolutionary War. Although anybody can see this war as a horrible tragedy, 13 year old Jonathan sees this as an opportunity to show his inner hero so he goes off and fights the war. This story takes place in New Jersey. Some people might find this story very good but I thought differently. This story has lacking lot's of communication between the characters. For example, most of the first chapter is about him walking down his town's street. At the beginning of the story a lot of the parts are starting off slowly, but as the story progresses the scenes become more clear and through out the story you might feel sad a bit. In the story some of the soldiers speak german so you'll have to go back to the translator in the back. The main problem in the story is that Jonathan run;s in to lat of danger and near death experiences through out the story. In the end we all know that we have problems and that is what Jonathan has learned . for some younger children this might be could but i didn't really like it and overall i would make this a skip.
